From dishwasher in Rome to pizza master in Pforzheim - Sharma's journey to Pizza Fontana
Young in Rome - the beginning
Sharma came to Rome in the 80s and started as a dishwasher in a pizzeria in the city center. Through hard work, he learned the craft of authentic Roman pizza making.
In 1989, Sharma came to Germany and two years later opened Pizza Fontana directly at the Vogelbrunnen in Pforzheim's Nordstadt. With the knowledge acquired in Rome, he started his own restaurant.
In the beginning it was difficult and customers were skeptical - Italian pizza was not yet so widespread in Pforzheim at that time. But Sharma showed perseverance and was able to convince customers with the authentic Roman taste.
Opening at Vogelbrunnen
By now Sharma has built up a loyal regular customer base and established a cooperation with a bar that he supplies with food. Pizza Fontana has become an integral part of the Nordstadt.
The Establishment
Today Sharma continues to run Pizza Fontana with his team. After more than 35 years, he knows many guests personally - regular customers are greeted like old friends. The restaurant has become indispensable to the Nordstadt. In good weather, guests can sit on the new outdoor terrace.
The pizza is still prepared according to the recipes learned in Rome. Sharma is proud that many guests have been coming to him for years.
